ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP
For the concurrent Class B competition see Island Championship B. For the previously concurrent Class C competition, see Perkins Salver.
First stage – Open to members of the Guernsey Rifle Club who were born on the island or qualify for local residency. Distances: 300, 500, and 600 yards. Number of shots: 2 sighting shots and 7 shots to count at each distance. Special Prize: The Bronze Medal for the competitor making the highest score in the first stage.
Second stage – Open to the top fifteen competitors from the first stage. Distances: 300, 500, and 600 yards. Number of shots: 2 sighting shots and 10 shots to count at each distance. Special Prize: The Silver Medal for the competitor making the highest score in the second stage.
Final stage – Open to the top ten competitors from the first and second stages combined. Distances: 500 and 600 yards. Number of shots: 2 sighting shots and 15 shots to count at each distance. Special Prize: The Jory Bowl, a silver-plated rose bowl, awarded to the competitor making the highest score in the final stage.
First Prize: The Gold Medal and the James Falla Memorial trophy, a hallmarked silver cup originally presented in 1886 by the Guernsey Rifle Association Vice-President, Lieutenant Colonel JA Carey, to JH Falla, and later presented to the Guernsey Rifle Club by Miss Eunice Falla and first awarded in 1958: awarded to the competitor making the highest aggregate score over all three stages.
Ties for the first prize and special prizes will be shot off on the spot.

The first Island Championship was contested in 1958 and won by Tommy Henry. As of 2025, sixty-eight Island Championships have been contested, which have been won by twenty-one different marksmen.
Richard Perkins has the most titles (12) and holds the records for the longest time between his first and last title (36 years, from 1976 to 2012), and the longest time between successive titles (17 years, between 1995 and 2012).
Four individuals have won four consecutive titles: Tommy Henry (1963–66), Mike Martel (1967–70), Bob Courtney (1983–86), and Richard Perkins (1988–91). Perkins also won three titles in row from 1976–78.
Nick Branch is the youngest Island Champion, winning the first of his seven titles in 2007, aged 17, while the record score is held by six-time champion, Philip Ogier, who scored 403.49v ex 405.81v in 2015.
